The Protector

AnnieWicker

My sister “K” adopted this dog about 6 years ago. The dog had stayed at a few dog shelters; including one  down in the south. All I know is she is part terrier mix. Her name was Oreo.

Oreo had a very tough life. She was malnourished, very skinny, and had a limp with one of her legs. Oreo’s name was changed to Annie.  This dog has a bb gun bullet lodged in her leg from her previous owners, and it can not be taken out. I can’t even imagine the pain this dog has endured 🙁 over the years.

Annie is a very friendly dog and so easy going. It is like a new transformation came over her after she was adopted 🙂 She likes to go for rides in the car, and go on walks in the neighborhood. I heard that the mailperson even brings Annie treats! 🙂 This dog loves to be outside. Annie relaxes on one of the lounge chair cushions. She has the life!

This month, in the middle of the night, Annie alerted my sister, “K”, by jumping up on her bed, and nudging her  face right to my sisters face. The dog kept at this until my sister woke up. My sister, petted the dog, and tried to go back to sleep. Annie at this time, put her whole self behind my sister and on the pillow. The nudging continued until my sister was completely awake!

The alert was the carbon mononide gadget had gone off in the house. All that loud beeping had alerted the dog and the dog was scared. My sister, “K” called the non-emergency number at the PD and told them what was going on. The dispatcher told her to get out of the house with the dog. She went to her car with the dog and a lot of blankets and food (for the dog) in case she couldn’t go back in her house. This night happened to be one of the coldest night of the week, after a major snowstorm. The police and firetrucks came in the middle of the night. The firefighters came in full gear to check the house out. Twenty minutes later everything was ok and no carbon monoxide poison. Thank God! The firefighters told my sister she has one lucky dog and who is definitely the protector of the house! 🙂

Have you ever had an experience like this with any of your pets? I would love to hear your responses.

A Country Ride to the Farm!

It’s been awhile since I have taken a Country Ride to the Farm. This was a perfect day for something different to do on the weekend with my daughter!  We both are animal lovers! Going here, also reminded me of when I worked in daycare of taking the kids to this outing! So much FUN and so many animals!

Our first stop was to find out where the Cows would be. We didn’t know exactly where they were located. After driving around the area of long twisty roads, the cows were finally found! Inside the barn were 2 cows side by side. It looked like one was whispering something to the other!

The baby cows were outside and soaking up the warm sun! They all had little cute igloos for their cow houses! 🙂

Huskies Mascot on water-tower!

Our next trip we found some horses. They are such beautiful animals.

They had all of this hay all to themselves! Just munch, munch, munch!

We came across some more cows. A few of them were moo-ing pretty loudly!

Before we left to go home we stopped by at the famous Uconn Dairy Bar. They have really great Ice-Cream. I remember going here as a kid.

Both my daughter and I had a great time at the Farm and seeing the animals. It was nice quality time together.

Have you ever been to a farm in the country before? If you have, what animals did you like to see the most? I would love to know which ones.

Just Because……

My Parent’s went on a vacation to New Hampshire for a few days. I have traveled there over the years. The outlet shops in Portsmouth are great to shop at! I have fond memories of going to Lake Winnipesaukee when I was younger.  My Parent’s had rented a cottage for a week and the lake was just footsteps away!

Last week was surely a busy week! I helped out my parents’ with doing some household chores for them. My parent’s were returning home from their vaca when my mom got ill at a restaurant and had to go get checked out at the hospital 🙁

Throughout the day and night I was the messenger, contacting family members on her progress and trying not to worry. Her condition was some viral bug. Doctors at the ER said this was happening to a lot of people in MA and they were getting a lot of cases of this sickness.

During the week I made meals for my parents’ and whatever else they needed I did. No questions asked. That’s the kind of person I am; do for others, help out whenever you can, no task is too much!

To my surprise, when my mom was feeling much better, she went with my dad out to the “Staples”store to get some copy paper. I was given two gifts that day from my parents’. I had no idea what it could be….. It was squishy and the other was hard.

Here is what I received:

A Hello Kitty zippered (squishy) purse and a pink (hard) mini notebook with a zipppered sleeve. I love anything that has to do with Hello Kitty products!

They told me the gifts were Just Because of my kindness to them, taking care of their house and helping them out when they needed it the most 🙂
